Do you ever walk through the aisles of the grocery store and wonder about all those interesting foods and what they are like? Well, we do. There are so many different foods out there that are just dying to be tested and that is exactly what we did. Please enjoy!
Food item #1: Baby Star Crispy Noodle Snack, Chicken Flavor
Product of: Japan
Date: 10/20/2008
Diane: These are way good. They are delicious little crispy threads of wheat and soy sauce goodness. I can't really taste the chicken flavor, but one of the ingredients is chicken extract. What is that? But I like them anyway. They would be good on a salad also.
Liz - They might be okay with something else. I don't like them solo. You would have to eat something with them to distract your mind and mouth from the foul bite-sized chicken punch.
Shelly - There are crunchy and have good flavor. I like them.
Amanda - I think there would be really good with beer; but they are way too salty on their own. I would prefer them to pretzels - Not bad!
Food item #2: Pocky Biscuit Sticks Covered with Strawberry Cream
Product of: Japan
Date: 10/20/2008
Diane - There are thin little sticks that are kind of like a long pretzel but thinner, dipped in a frosting that is thin and hardened. They really smell like strawberry but don't have a strong taste. The ingredients say they are colored with red beets. They taste kind of dusty to me. I wouldn't buy them again.
Shelly - I thought they were tasty. Calories are good. You can eat a whole box for 210 calories.
Liz - Pocky is delicious. It's like strawberry flavored heaven in my mouth. Yum. The chocolate flavored Pocky is divine. It is comparative to a stick-form milk shake.
Amanda - I though Pocky was aucky. The arome was reminiscent of a push-up pop but the "pretzel" portion was like dried sawdust. Boo.
Food item #3: Conchas, Mexican Scratch Handmade Pastries, Rodriguez Pan Mexicano
Product of: Oregon
Date: 11/04/2008
Diane - They are a really fluffy bread. The tops are weird colors where the shell part is. Kind of sweet. I don't know when you would eat these. Too sweet for dinner, bu not exactly a sweet roll. I don't hate them but I also don't care if I ever see one again, either.
Shelly - Kind of like a mixture between a doughnut and a dinner roll. Not something you'd want to sit down and chow down on , though.
Liz - Yeah, they are a din-nut. The fellow on the bag is intimidating. The shell shaped aspect of the Concha is a little frightening as well. I don't like the floury topping. I can't stop eating them though.
Amanda - Tastes like a dinner roll that has been on a dirty sticky plate. The "frosting" is questionable. I don't think my dog Tuff would eat it.
Lorie - Not bad.
Food item #4: Sunny Seed Drops, Candy coated chocolate sunflower seeds
Product of: Lenexa, Kansas
Date: 11/11/2008
Diane - They are not ugly. They are little, tiny, brown, orange, green, and yellow shiney teardrops of candy. They are hard to keep ahold of. Sunny Seeds are okay. The chocolate is not that good. They taste kind of fatty.
Shelly - They are ugly. I don't like them. I don't want them. They are ugly.
Liz - I enjoy the texture. They are great until you get a bum seed. They do not bring out any emotion in me as far as loving or hating them. They leave me bland.
Amanda - They are deceivingly attractive. I don't like the salty chocolateness. Plus they get stuck in your teeth.
Lorie - These aren't too bad. I like them.
Liz the 2nd - I don't like them. Do I have to eat them all? I really love sunflower seeds but the chocolate is not a good match.
Food item #5: Jarritos Tamarindo Referesco Sabor Natural
Product of: Mexico
Date: 11/24/2008
*Jarritos comes in many different flavors. They contain no high fructose corn syrup, no caffeine and have 100% natural sugar!
Diane - It has a weird yeasty smell. It's like sweet spoiled water that is brown, but with a seltzery twist. It makes me burp right away. Not happy. It's like some weird fermented demented half done quazi alcoholic thing.
Shelly - It's dead cocoa. Rotten water. It looks like sewage water. I think. It is horrible. It's the worst. I hate it. It's evil. It scares me.
Liz - It's like weird alka-seltzer. It messes with my jive, man. It tastes like liquid Conchas. It makes me cry but I am still drinking it.
Amanda - It smells like B.O.. The aroma is again, reminiscent of mature B.O.. What is a tamarind? It's kind of like cream soda. I want to rename it.
Lorie - It's okay but I wouldn't buy it. The smell is funny and it makes me puckery.
*Note: We all think Don will like it. But now Patti is burping and Liz says her tummy hurts. And Liz is just sad. Now she is eating antacids. Amanda burped three times. Amanda also just poured our two new taste testers extra large servings, accept for the Ken.
Patti: The aftertaste is better than the first sip. Kind of cream-soda-ey after the fact.
Don - Flat root beer. It's not very good. One sip is enough. I am done.
The Ken - It's not bad. I don't know what a tamarind is. I kind of like it.
Smiley - It tastes like Fig flavored soda. Carbonated Fig.
Food Item #6: Old South Tomolives
Product of: Alma, Arkansas
Date: 12/4/08
Rating: 6
Shelly - Well, it's got a wang to it. I don't like these either.
Diane - Salty, but I like it. Smells like a dill pickle. They are good.
Amanda - It says on the label it would make the ultimate martini garnish. I agree.
Liz the 2nd - It would be good with cheese or in tuna salad, but not alone.
Liz - I think they tste like pickled okra. They would be good in tartar sauce.
Don - Sour!
Shelly - Well, I'm so happy for all of you. These are gross. And Diane, you'll be eating antacids any minute. Stop eating them.
Food Item #7: Calbee Brand "Shrimp Flavored Chips"
Product of: USA
Date: 12/4/08
Rating: -1
"A toasted light snack, with a touch of shrimp. A delectable new snack made with tidbits of shrimp, wheat flour, and pure vegetable oil blended together and toasted to a golden crispy crunch."
Shelly - They look like french fries, but smell like dead something. Seriously, who would eat these? Gross.
Liz the 2nd - Salty. Nasty. Nasty. Nasty.
Diane - Like super puffy smooshed up shrimp skins. Yuck. Weird and puffy and crunchy and fishy. Gross.
Liz - They smell just like fish food. They like french fried fish food. One bite is more than enough. Once you pop you CAN stop. Gross.
Amanda - They do smell like fish food. You expect something like a cheese puff, but they are very dense. Gross.
Don - Doesn't taste like shrimp. Tasteless. There are two interpretations to that...
Note: We sent these over to another real estate office where they apparently became a weapon. They would run by the door of each other's offices and throw them in so that upon the victim's return, their office smelled like old shrimp.
Food Item #8: AeroMexico Airplane Peanut Snacks Japones Tostado - Con Limon (Toasted peanuts with lime)
Product of: Mexico
Date: 12/23/08
Rating: 4
*Everyone agrees they smell like a peanut. Duh.
Liz the 2nd - Tastes like the shell of a peanut. Woody. Smells better than it tastes.
Shelly - Oh my - They were trying to feed you these on the plane? You could barf.
Amanda - You can take the crusty lime shell off. Then they are a plain peanut.
Diane - I like the shell. It is tart and salty. They are good.
Liz - I don't hate them. I can't stop eating them. They are better without the shell because then they are a plain peanut and those are delicious.
Shelly - I like them without the shell. I like peanuts.
Liz - Me too.
